Tasting Notes
Based in Cuisles in the Marne Valley, fourth-generation grower Odile Thieullet farms her Meunier vineyards with biodiversity front and centre, using grazing animals and gentle pruning to keep the vines healthy and expressive. With additional parcels in Jonquery and Châtillon-sur-Marne, she works quietly and precisely in the cellar, fermenting and ageing mostly in small oak with native yeasts and minimal intervention. No stirring, no heavy handling, just time and patience, resulting in Champagnes that feel textured, characterful and deeply tied to their soils. I am not the only one to have said these wines are very reminiscent of producers like Prevost and Laval which is very high praise. - Pete L
Odile Thieullet is a third-generation grower-producer based in Cuisles, a village in the Vallée de la Marne famed for its high-quality Pinot Meunier. Since launching her own label in 2021, Thieullet has quickly gained acclaim for her artisanal, low-intervention approach to Meunier-dominant Champagnes. Her work is often compared to legendary growers like Prevost and Laval for its textural depth and site-specific purity.
The estate’s vineyard philosophy centers on biodiversity and heroic care of small parcels totaling just over half a hectare across Cuisles, Jonquery, and Châtillon-sur-Marne. She employs grazing animals in the rows to maintain soil health and follows gentle pruning techniques to ensure vine longevity. These plots are characterized by rare green clay over limestone-marl soils, which impart a distinct structural tension and saline minerality to the fruit.
In the cellar, winemaking is precise and patient, typically involving fermentation and ageing in small oak barrels using native yeasts. Thieullet avoids heavy handling—such as stirring or excessive filtration—allowing the wine to develop a natural patina over time. Her signature cuvées, like the "Confidentielle" and "L’Indépendante," are often released as single-vintage, zero or low-dosage (Extra Brut) wines to preserve the crystalline expression of the Marne Valley’s unique terroir.
