Tasting Notes
The white 2019 Mirando al Sur was produced with Viura with the particularity that it matured in sherry barrels for 22 months after fermenting and aging with lees in 600-liter oak barrels for six months. Olivier Rivière once told me every vintage is different. The wine has 13.5% alcohol with six grams of acidity, and it comes through as fresh and balanced. There is less and less influence from the sherry barrels in the aromatics of the wine, which now comes through as a more traditional oak-aged white Rioja, fine and elegant in the style of the wines from Tondonia, with also a longer élevage. It's dry, serious and balanced. This is the line he wants, with fruit from Cárdenas, which is a change, as in the past it was from Labastida. 3,000 bottles were filled in February 2022. - Importer Note
Less is more! Minimal intervention or Lo-fi wines encapsulate those producers who keep additions and manipulations to a minimum during the winemaking process. This means the wines are wild fermented, unfiltered and unfined, and only add sulfur during the process.
