Tasting Notes

A cuvée built from several parcels rooted in intensely chalky soils, Éclat de Calcaire showcases Meursault through a lens of clarity, minerality and finesse. The nose opens with white peach, pear skin and citrus blossom, underpinned by crushed limestone, hazelnut and a gentle smoky note from Girardin’s reductive edge. The palate is sleek and energetic, offering ripe orchard fruit wrapped around a vivid mineral core, with fine acidity giving tension and drive. Subtle oak frames the wine without interrupting its purity. The finish is long, chalky and shimmering—an elegant, vibrant Meursault shaped unmistakably by its calcaire origins. - Chris L

Les Folatières, in Puligny-Montrachet, was the beginning of it all for Pierre, being one of the few vineyards his father held onto after the sale in 2012 of Domaine Vincent Girardin. As a vineyard close to his heart, Pierre took this 4.5 hectares of vines and has built an empire for himself in the heart of Burgundy with his first vintage presented in 2017.

As a 13th-generation winemaker, Pierre-Vincent Girardin’s family legacy has granted him unparalleled access to top-tier grape growers who share his unwavering commitment to vineyard excellence. This unique network has expanded his reach across renowned terroirs, encompassing treasures such as Pommard “Rugiens,” Pommard “Grand Epenots,” Vosne-Romanée “Les Suchots,” Corton-Charlemagne, as well as prestigious Grand Cru Montrachet and Richebourg vineyards. His dedication to organic viticulture is truly commendable, and what sets him apart is his meticulous care for the Pommard and Vosne Romanée vineyards, treating them as if they were his very own.

Pierre-Vincent dares to challenge convention, embracing of the Lunar calendar to enhance biodynamic practices and his innovative approach of raising trellises instead of pruning leaves, exemplify his commitment to pushing the boundaries of tradition. Additionally, Pierre-Vincent’s decision to commission custom 456L barrels from Tonnellerie François Frères has allowed him to craft Chardonnays that bear a distinct Pierre Girardin signature, marked by a reduction in the influence of new wood. By refraining from filtration or fining post-barrel ageing, he grants every enthusiast the privilege of savouring the unadulterated essence of Burgundy with every sip.

Pierre-Vincent champions Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, crafting wines renowned for their exceptional cellaring potential. His Chardonnays radiate with a vibrant yellow hue, boasting enticing citrus aromas, delicate floral notes, and a strikingly lively acidity. Meanwhile, his Pinot Noirs entice the senses with a bouquet of floral nuances and intricate spices, culminating in an enduring, memorable finish. - Importer Note
