Envinate
Envinate (which literally translates to "wine yourself") have firmly cemented themselves as the flagship producer of the Canary Islands, crafting sensational wines from volcanic terroir. This project started when 4 young students studying oenology in Alicante in 2005 decided to work together and explore the Atlantic influenced terroirs or western Spain, eventually buying some vineyards in 2008, primarily in Tenerife of the Canary Islands and the rest is history.
Envinate is an attempt to express a place and a time through wine and they pride themselves on their work on the vines - it is better to think of them as a group of viticulturalists rather than winemakers. The 4 core principles of Envinate wines are:
1. The personality of the site
2. The character of the vintage
3. The soul of the people who work among the vines
4. Not f**king around in the winery because that’s how you make coke.
In the winery, concrete and/or old oak barrels are used for both fermentation and ageing and sulphur is used only at bottling in tiny proportions to keep the wines sharp and fresh.
We've just picked up 4 classic wines from Envinate that we are thrilled to share with you. Firstly, the '23 'Benje Blanco' comes from vines at over 1000m above sea level just behind a large volcano and is a wine of great acid and minerality. The '23 'Palo Blanco' comes from vines over 100 years old and ages in 2,500L foudres and drinks like a volcanic Chenin Blanc! The '23 'Taganan Tinto' comes from a village in the remote north east corner or Tenerife and drinks like a seductive cross of Pinot and Cabernet Franc. Finally, the '23 'Lousas Tinto' is made of predominantly Mencia grapes from Envinate's work in mainland Spain in Ribeira Sacra and is aged in a variety of barrels and concrete tanks for 12 months to produce a wine of incredible spice and finesse. Anyone that loves well-farmed, unique and special wines should check these out!

Eastern Peake
Eastern Peake craft some incredible small-batch wines on a small plateau at Coghills Creek in the Ballarat Highlands some 25 km from Ballarat. The Eastern Peake Vineyard was first planted in 1983 with a cellar to follow in Coghill's Creek in 1994. Owen Latta, the winemaker behind Eastern Peake recently won the 2025 Young Gun of Wine award which has brought much deserved attention to these wines.
"The long standing Philosophy is that great wines are made from great healthy vineyards planted on an interesting site, a great winemaker never imprints their DNA the wine should always reflect the place it was grown."
Eastern Peake is positioned at 430 metres above sea level, which is relatively high within Australian vineyards. The soil is duplex in nature with clay loam basalt overlying a subsoil of clay and fine iron stone. This site was initially selected as a vineyard by the late Trevor Mast of Mt Langi Ghiran for its cool-climate capacity to produce stunning Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. No additions in the winery are ever needed, they always have excellent natural acidity with an optimum ripeness on fruit year in year out. The winery is run with indigenous yeasts, the wines are unforced - their malolactic fermentation occurs naturally, everything is unfined, unfiltered and un-tinkered with just a small amount of sulphur before bottling.
We've stocked up on more of the Eastern Peake wines after tasting them the other week - these amazing wines always have a place in our store. The 'Brut Nature' is a sparkling wie assembled from the cool 2011 and 2017 vintages and shows tantalising citrus and stone fruits alongside a nutty creaminess - probably one of the best Aussie sparkling wines out there. The '23 'Intrinsic Chardonnay' is absolutely stunning with great texture and acid energy to keep this lively. This drinks like a high-quality Puligny-Montrachet. The '22 'Latta Headwaters Nebbiolo' is the only wine from this Latta range at the moment but punches seriously above its weight. As someone who rarely enjoys Aussie Neb, this one is worth trying. The '23 'Two Mile Hill Pinot Noir' is sourced from a vineyard just 7km from Eastern Peake and is grown on volcanic soils at 380m above sea level to produce a fresh and spicy Pinot. The '23 'Intrinsic Pinot Noir' is always great - This has layers of spice and earth alongside vibrant red fruits and would be a serious contender for best Aussie Pinot under $100. Finally, the '21 'Block 1989 Pinot Noir' is their top Pinot coming from the block of the original plantings from 1989 and ages in various barriques. Perhaps one of the most underrated Australian Pinots around; this one will not disappoint. Pick up some of these incredible wines from Australia's newest Young Gun of Wine!

Sentio
Sentio was founded by Chris Catlow who was born and raised in Beechworth and had developed an interest in winemaking as a teenager. Barry Morey of Sorrenberg helped to nurture his interest as Chris assisted him with multiple vintages before going on to study a double degree of Viticultural Science and Wine Science at Latrobe University. Chris has always had a keen passion for Chardonnay as he eventually went on to work 7 vintages in Mornington Peninsula and 5 vintages in Burgundy.
“My philosophy for Sentiō is a work in progress. Making wines that represent where they’re from is the fundamental point. I always loved seeing wines that give a story of the vineyard and the region.”
Sentio wines are first and foremost, an expression of place. Chris sources grapes from a range of quality growers across Victoria from which each grape tells a story of the conditions that shaped it. Winemaking is kept straightforward and without too much difference between grapes to allow the varietal characteristics in the context of its site shine through.
We've picked up 3 great new wines from Sentio after tasting them with Chris a couple of weeks ago. We have the '24 'King Valley Aligote' which is sourced from an east-facing site on red volcanic loam at 300m above sea level. This has to be one of the best examples of the grape outside of Burgundy. The '22 'Beechworth Chardonnay' is a beautiful Beechworth Chardy that we all know and love with a bi more elegance than some of the bigger names of the region. Finally, the '23 'Mount Gambier Pinot Noir' is a nice little Pinot from a severely underrated Aussie winemaking region. These are some fantastic wines at reasonable prices, don't pass these up!
